How to Check a University on the Official UGC-DEB List

15 Apr 2026 · Mentoring Minds Team

Knowing how to read the UGC-DEB entitlement list is a skill every prospective online or distance student should have. It lets you verify any university independently, without relying on anyone's word.

Find the current list

The UGC Distance Education Bureau publishes, session by session, the list of higher education institutions entitled to offer programmes in open, distance, and online modes. Always locate the list for the session in which you intend to enrol, as entitlements are updated each cycle.

Locate your university

Search the list for your university by its official name. Note that a university may appear for some programmes or modes and not others, so finding the name is only the first step.

Confirm your programme and mode

Within the entry, check that your exact programme — for example, MBA or B.Com — is listed, and that it is entitled in the mode you want, whether online or ODL. A university entitled for distance BA is not automatically entitled for online MBA.

Note the details that matter

  • The session or academic year the entitlement covers
  • The specific programmes listed
  • The mode — online, ODL, or both
  • Any conditions or limits mentioned

Cross-check recognition

Alongside the entitlement list, confirm the university itself is UGC-recognised. The two checks together give you complete assurance.

Why verification protects you

The single thread running through every question of degree validity is verification. A degree's worth rests entirely on the university being recognised and entitled for your programme and session. This is not a formality — it is the difference between a qualification that advances your career and a certificate that does not. Making verification your first step, every time, is the most important habit a prospective student can build.

How Mentoring Minds helps

We verify every university's UGC-DEB entitlement and NAAC accreditation before we recommend it, so you can enrol knowing your degree will be recognised. If you are unsure about any university's standing, our counsellors will check it with you, free of charge.

Reading the UGC-DEB list yourself takes the guesswork out of choosing a university. Find the current session's list, confirm your exact programme and mode, and you can enrol with total confidence in your degree's standing — no agent's assurance required.

In the end, the recognition and value of your degree are not matters of luck but of informed choice. Every student who verifies entitlement, checks accreditation, and enrols with care ends up with a qualification that serves them fully. This diligence is entirely within your control, and it is the surest guarantee that your investment of time and money delivers the recognised degree you deserve.
